Moka Pot Coffee Brew Guide

We love the moka pot because it gives a rich and bold brew that’s close to espresso, but without all the fancy equipment. It’s a quick, way to get a deep, intense flavour right on your stovetop.

What you'll need:

  • Moka Pot/Percolator
  • Roasted Coffee (medium to dark roasts work better)
  • Grinder (or pre-ground coffee)
  • Digital Scales (0.1g accuracy if you’re feeling extra)
  • Heat Source (Gas, Electric)

How to brew:

1) Fill the base of your moka pot with cold filtered water

Fill up to the base of the pressure release valve. In our 3 cup pot we use around 150ml of water.

2) Grind your coffee

If you have beans, grind it to an almost table salt like look and feel.

3) Fill the basket

We use around 15 grams in our 3 cup pot - make sure it's evenly spread across the basket and then lightly push the coffee down with the back of a spoon.

4) Screw on the top

Screw on the top chamber of the moka pot... we're ready to get brewing!

5) Heat that baby up

Put the moka pot on a medium to high heat and allow the water in the bottom chamber to boil.

We like to keep the top lid open so we can see when the coffee begins to travel into the top chamber (this can take around 4-5 minutes).

7) Turn the heat down

Once the coffee starts to fill the top chamber turn the heat all the way down and let the brewing process continue. Once no more coffee is filling the chamber, close the lid and take it off the heat.

Make sure you don't put the moka pot on any surfaces that can’t handle hot metal.

8) Serve your delicious coffee

We'd then leave it to cool down completely before cleaning.
